Laparoscopic Excision of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor of the Stomach Near the Gastroesophageal Junction

Linda P Zhang, MD, Barry A Salky, MD. Mount Sinai School of Medicine

This is a video demonstrating a laparoscopic approach to excision of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor of the posterior stomach near the gastroesophageal junction. This is a challenging portion of the stomach for laparoscopic excision and repair. After full mobilization of the hiatus and fundus, the GIST tumor was removed. Using intracorporeal suturing, the large posterior gastric defect was repaired without narrowing of the gastroesophageal junction.
