Seeking Robotic Surgical Assistant to Join High Volume Academic Urology Department

The University of Florida (UF) Department of Urology is seeking a Surgical/Physician’s Assistant, Nurse Practitioner or RN First Assistant for an exciting opportunity as a Robotics Surgical Assistant within the Department of Urology at the UF College of Medicine, Gainesville, FL. This unique position offers the opportunity to expand clinical skills and experience using the da Vinci surgical system as well as participate in a minimally invasive training lab. The incumbent will join a team of high volume surgeons involved in a wide diversity of laparoscopic and robotic urologic procedures including: prostatectomy, partial nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy, pyeloplasty, adrenalectomy and others. This individual will work primarily under the supervision of the Chief of the Division of Robotic and Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery.

1. Operating Room: The incumbent will spend 2-4 days a week in the operating room working as the primary surgical assistant for a variety of laparoscopic and robotic urologic surgeries.

  • He/she will be responsible for assisting OR staff in the preparation and breakdown of all surgical procedures. All procedures will be performed at UF Health at the UF College of Medicine in Gainesville, FL.
  • He/she will be expected to learn and be comfortable with laparoscopic/robotic instrumentation and surgical techniques as well as the proper setup and breakdown of the da Vinci surgical system.

2. Clinic: On non-operative days, the incumbent will be trained to assist in patient visits and after care in the urology clinic.

3. Minimally Invasive Training Lab: Twice a month the incumbent will participate with resident training in a laparoscopic training lab. He/she will assist with the setup and breakdown of all resident procedure labs performed in dedicated laparoscopic training facilities at UF Health.

4. Research: The incumbent will have the opportunity to participate in clinical research, evaluation of new surgical devices and compile teaching videos.

Surgical/physician’s assistant or nursing degree and license to practice in Florida required. Laparoscopic and robotic experience required.
