The Physician’s Assistant, under the direction and supervision of the collaborating physicians and surgeons, will provide specialty surgical care to patients in the General, Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Division. Incumbent will provide direct patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings. Primary responsibilities include performing physical examinations; providing educational support to patients and advocates; screening patients to determine the need for medical attention; and making decisions regarding data gathering and appropriate management and treatment of patients being seen for initial evaluation or follow-up. Additional responsibilities include collecting specimens for commonly performed office procedures; identifying normal and abnormal findings on history, physical and labs; reviewing patients records to determine health status; initiating requests for commonly performed labs and studies; initiating treatment based on abnormal results and facilitating ongoing communication with patients and primary physicians. Incumbent will perform clinic procedures as needed and directed; assist with surgical procedures in the operating room, provide input to the physician regarding patient treatment care plans and initiate appropriate evaluation and management of emergency situations as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Certification as a Physician Assistant within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A minimum of one year prior experience as a Surgical PA.

Required Skills and Abilities:

*Must have prior experience caring for surgical and/or sub-specialty patients.

*Ability to manage projects.

*Working knowledge of all applicable computer software.

*Knowledge of applicable professional principles.

*Must have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and patients.


* Prior experience caring for morbidly obese/bariatric patients
